The black continuous shapes denote the effective radii of the galaxies as measured in Sect. 3.2. The effective radius of NGC 1277 has been de-circularised assuming an axial ratio , as determined from an ellipse fit to the outer regions of the galaxy (see Sect. 3.2). The dashed circle indicates the location of the galaxy that is in the line of sight of NGC 1277 (Sect. 3.1).
