Discovery of concentric broken rings at sub-arcsec separations in the HD 141569A gas-rich, debris disk with VLT/SPHERE

by C. Perrot, A. Boccaletti, E. Pantin, et al. A&A 590, L7

HD 141569A is a transition disk that is still gas-rich but contains significant amounts of dust. Using the SPHERE coronagraph, Perrot et al. reveal that the inner 100 au contains a series of concentric ringlets at physical separation of 47 au, 64 au, and 93 au. Are these broken rings real, or are they parts of spiral patterns as observed at larger scales? Are they associated with yet unseen planets? New instruments slowly unveil these young protoplanetary systems but reveal new mysteries…
