Analytical treatment of planetary resonances
by K. Batygin and A. Morbidelli, A&A 556, A28
Systems of extrasolar planets that reside in or near mean-motion resonances are relatively common. The origin of these systems is attributed to protoplanetary disk-driven migration, but a qualitative description of the dynamical evolution of resonant planets remains largely elusive. This paper presents an analytical model for first-order planetary mean-motion resonances. The model constitutes a useful first, approximative solution to a very complex problem and will undoubtedly serve as a stepping stone for future developments.
