Estimating stellar mean density through seismic inversions

This article presents an asteroseismological method of determining the mean mass of solar-type stars from kernal-based inversions of their frequency spectrum. For stars with accurate determinations of distance and radius, this allows an almost direct estimate of the mass. Three different inversion techniques are tested and their accuracy evaluated by applying them to four stars, including the Sun, and models.
