Relative merger importance for the growth in the stellar mass of massive galaxies. Solid and dashed blue lines correspond to disks selected with and 0.71, respectively. Dash-dotted and dotted red lines correspond to spheroids of each CS. Disks exhibit a quiescent merging history, indicating that most of their stellar mass was formed through star formation rather than mergers. As we move toward stricter thresholds, the importance of mergers reduces significantly. On the other hand, spheroids require a significant fraction of mergers to form, regardless of the selection criteria used.
