Gradient spectra ∇l for reference stars with Teff = 12500 K (blue) and Teff = 17500 K (orange) from Kurucz models, compared to Payne model predictions (green) for Teff = 12500 K. A vertical offset separates the gradients for the hotter star. Both stars share log g = 3.5 dex, vmic = 5 km s−1, v sin i = 150 km s−1, [Fe/H] = −0.4 dex, and solar abundances for other elements.
