Matched (left) and unmatched (right) GEO/GES satellite trails in celestial equatorial coordinates. The geostationary belt is visible at Dec=+6°, as observed from South Africa. The sinusoidal band are the geosynchronous satellites. The unmatched trails show satellites in both the geostationary belt and in geosynchronous orbit, as well as more extreme cases at slightly higher and lower declinations.
