r − i vs. i − z color-color diagram used in this work to select LBG candidates and exclude contaminants. The solid magenta and black lines define the selection boundaries in the color diagram established by the modified color selection criteria from Y06 and O04, respectively. In the left panel, we show the representative colors of several classes of galaxies from Coleman et al. (1980) as a function of redshift from z = 0 to 3. In the right panel we show the colors of different types of stars, from main-sequence to brown dwarfs, obtained by using models of stellar atmospheres from Castelli & Kurucz (2004) and brown dwarf spectra from Burgasser (2014).
