Distribution of 33 XXL AC objects in the mid-infrared colour space. The dashed magenta line encloses the spectroscopic type I and II AGN criteria. The red markers denote AC objects that have the ten largest hardness ratios (an independent X-ray indicator of AGN presence) described in Sect. 5.5. All objects are coloured according to the level of point-source contamination in the soft X-ray band, which is defined in Sect. 5.6.
