The model assumes ξ is constant for z ∈ [0, zmax]. We determined the likelihood function twice: for zmax = 0.5, using 1473 giants, and for zmax = 0.25, using 811 giants. We caution that, in this case, the MLE parameters are a poor measure of central tendency.
