Model spectra of a β Pictoris-like system: an A6 star with Teff = 8000 K (BT-Nextgen Allard et al. 2012) and a giant planet with Teff = 1700 K (BT-Settl Allard 2014), normalized over the K bandpass at a resolution of R = 7000. Not only the slope of the continuum is reversed between the two objects, but also the absorption line content, with the prominent Brackett-γ line in the stellar spectrum at 2.16μm, while the planet spectrum exhibits a forest of H2O and CO lines.
