Some distinct features of APOGEE targeting can be easily discerned: the high target density in the Kepler field, enhanced density distributions around open clusters. These are sometimes elongated when the distance precision is low, e.g. (d ∼ 5.2 kpc); ω Cen appear around R ≃ 6.5 kpc, Z ≃ 1 kpc.
