The figure shows the projection of the initial binary parameter space in the period (log10 (P)) – mass ratio (q = M2/M1) plane. Left (right) panel: final outcome of the primary (secondary) star, or the merger star that was formed after mass transfer from that component. The colored boxes show the simplified limits of the area from which each evolutionary channel originates. The hashed regions show the part of the parameter space that leads to merging triggered by the companion star in each case.
