Particles in green are more bound to the host galaxy (leading arm), while those in red are less bound (trailing arm) than the progenitor. The dashed curves are the progenitor orbits evolved in today’s potential, with the green integrated forward in time for the leading arm and red backwards for the trailing arm. The current position of the progenitor is indicated with a red cross.
