UV observations of Z And carried out close to the inferior conjunction of the giant during its quiescent phase (on February 3rd 1988). Compared is the model SED (heavy solid line) with its components from the nebula (dashed line) and the hot star (thin solid line). The strong attenuation of the continuum around the Ly-α line is caused by the Rayleigh scattering process. Dotted line represents the non-attenuated light (see text for details).
