The Cepheid mass discrepancy and pulsation-driven mass loss
Cepheids are important standard candles for the cosmic distance ladder. A puzzling problem is the discrepancy between masses determined from pulsation modeling and those predicted from stellar evolution models. The authors show that evolution calculations that take Cepheid mass loss and core overshooting into account can reconcile the two mass estimates.
