A Sino-German lambda6 cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. III. The region from 10° to 60° longitude

Surveys of Galactic synchrotron emission are of great interest for the light they throw on the structure of the Galactic magnetic field and because they allow us to estimate the "contamination" of the cosmic microwave background by Galactic emission. The Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the inner Galaxy makes an important contribution to this effort, and the article by Sun et al. highlighted in this issue describes the results for the region from 10 to 60 degrees in Galactic longitude. A major conclusion is that the effects of Faraday depolarization limit the 6cm horizon for polarized emission to 4 kpc within the plane.
