Soft clustering analysis of galaxy morphologies: A worked example with SDSS

by R. Andrae, P. Melchior, and M. Bartelmann, A&A 522, A21 alt

The authors apply a "soft" (probabilistic Bayesian, essentially "fuzzy", Yu et al. 2005) classification algorithm to the morphological discrimination of galaxies. The technique is drawn from graph theory and is a new application to astronomical data that promises broad application. The application is proposed for unsupervised analyses of very large samples, in this case the SDSS.
