Appendix A: Envelope non-detections
Images of the fields for which the AGB star but not the envelope are detected are shown in Fig. A.1. IRAS 06012+0726 (AFGL 865) is not detected in V or I, and is not shown. It is however well detected in J, H, and K in the 2MASS survey, with J = 13.38, H = 9.28, and K = 6.06. At a Galactic latitude b = −7, this object has the largest extinction (AV ~ 1.6 mag) based on the NED extinction calculator, which probably accounts for the non-detection at short wavelengths.
