Spatial distribution of the synthetic PWN population in the Milky Way Galaxy for a random realization of 1600 sources. The corresponding ejecta masses (in units of M) of each PWN are color-coded as indicated in the color bar. The right panel of the figure shows the Fermi-LAT γ-ray skymap and the distribution of the same PWNe population with respect to it. The background top-down (face-on) view of the Milky Way (Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/R. Hurt (SSC/Caltech)) and the all-sky γ-ray (Aitoff) skymap (Credit: NASA/DOE/Fermi LAT Collaboration) were generated using the mw-plot code (Hurt 2025).
