Scaling laws for foundation models in astronomy compared to the GPT series. The number of tokens is defined as subword units in text (GPT models); pairs of augmented images (contrastive learning models); or a number of patches (AstroPT model). The projected scaling of future models incorporating Euclid data in upcoming data releases are marked with green stars. Our current model, trained on Q1 Euclid data, is represented by a red star. The models from the literature are referenced as follows: AH21 (Hayat et al. 2021); S21 (Sarmiento et al. 2021), GS21 (Stein et al. 2021); GMS24 (Martínez-Solaeche et al. 2024); P24 (Parker et al. 2024); and MS24 (Smith et al. 2024).
