Runtime of the inverse TSC algorithm (from mesh to particles) for a force field. In coloured lines we show the results with different ordering of the particle arrays. ‘Randomly sorted’ means that in the initial conditions we randomly shuffle the particle positions. ‘Initially sorted only’ means that in the initial conditions the particles are linearly ordered, with the same contiguous properties as the cells they are in. ‘Partially’ and ‘Fully sorted’ means than every N steps (here 50), we sort the particle array according to Morton indexing based on their positions (see Section 3.2). The simulation has 5123 particles and as many cells, and was run with 64 CPUs.
