Comparison of the level populations throughout the simulated core shown in Fig. 3, under LTE conditions. When the level populations are designated without a second subscript to denote the magnetic quantum number all sublevel populations are degenerate. In the opposite case, the magnetic sublevels are explicitly considered in the detailed balance equations. As was expected, under LTE conditions, the numerical result is n0, 0 = n0 and n 1 , 0 = n 1 , ± 1 = 1 3 n 1 $ n_{1, 0} = n_{1,\pm 1} = \frac{1}{3}n_{1} $, irrespective of the local physical conditions. Note that the differences are in units of 10−16.
