Statistics of the test run of STONKS on a part of the 2021 XMM-Newton archive. The height of the boxes and branches are proportional to the number of alerts – we have chosen to not display the exact numbers for the sake of readability. The main takeaways are the high fraction of serendipitous alerts and the high fraction of sources that are either 1) not in Simbad or 2) in Simbad, but with no details on the nature of the object. This shows the potential of STONKS to uncover new hiddent transients.
