Three stages of subtraction of the scattered light emitted by NGC 1035 and the star (Gmag = 14 mag) near NGC 1052-DF4 (similar to Fig. 1). The panels depict the mosaic of the field (5′×5′) using a color image generated with r-filter Gemini data. The left panel shows the original stacked image, and the middle panel illustrates the models of the star and the galaxy NGC 1035. The right panel shows the residual image generated by subtracting the models from the original image.
