Table 4.
Comparison of the modelled total and open magnetic flux to observations and independent reconstructions, quantified through their reduced χ2 values.

this work | RGO/SOON | 0.122 | 0.184 | 0.214 |
This work | AMR(1.4 R⊙) | 0.035 (a) | 0.195 | 0.277 |
This work | AMR(1.5 R⊙) | 0.035 (a) | 0.313 | 0.684 |
Notes. Kea21 refers to the reconstruction from the ISN2.0 by Krivova et al. (2021) and C10 to reconstruction from the RGO/SOON sunspot group data using the old SFTM model setup from Cameron et al. (2010). We also list our simulation results with the new SFTM setup (see Sect. 4.4) using RGO/SOON data and the semi-synthetic AMR records as input, respectively. The reduced χ2 values were calculated using the following reference records: total magnetic flux measured by ground-based observatories (MWO, WSO, NSO), Ftotal, over the period 1976–2009, the reconstruction of the open magnetic flux from geomagnetic aa index by Lockwood et al. (2022), Fopen, L22 (1890–2016), and the in situ measurements of the open magnetic flux by Owens et al. (2017), Fopen, O17 (1998–2016).
