Massive galaxy formation caught in action at z ∼ 5 with JWST

Stellar mass map of a “CGG-z5”-like group in the EAGLE simulations. Stellar mass of individual galaxies are shown in the legend with halo mass M_halo = (M₂₀₀/M_⊙). The simulations suggest that CGG-z5 will form a single massive galaxy by z = 3.
