Hi-GAL H2 column density image of the l = 160–171° (top) and l = 349–356° (bottom) regions produced using Hi-GAL images as described in Elia et al. (2013). The l = 349–356° zone contains the bright star-forming regions NGC 6334 and NGC 6357. These two regions are used in this paper to illustrate the results. The dark pixels are saturated.
