Result of the inverse Fourier transformation applied to the sampled noiseless visibilities (left) and to the noisy visibilities with additional white noise (right), called “dirty images”. The appearance of background artifacts is visiblein both cases. Compared to the true brightness distribution shown in Fig. 1 the brightness is underestimated. These reconstruction errors are caused by incomplete data in Fourier space.
