Notes. Median (μ) and inter-quartile range (IQR) of cloud property distributions (from top to bottom effective radius Reff, velocity dispersion σv, molecular gas mass Mmol, molecular gas mass surface density Σmol, virial parameter αvir, and aspect ratio AR) in the spiral arms (SA) with respect to the inter-arm regions (IA). The analysis is performed separately for the full sample, for the cloud sample that contains at least one ATLASGAL source (ATLASGAL sample), and for the sample with a high mass star formation (HMSF) signpost (HMSF sample); and their respective science and complete distance-limited subsamples.
