Free photon trajectories in the poloidal x − z plane. Photons are emitted perpendicularly upward from various points of the equatorial plane of the system. The closest to the BH emission points are (3, 0) and (−3, 0) and taking into account the angle of emission, these photons should and indeed do follow the photon ring trajectory (compare to Bini et al. 2015, Fig. 1).
