Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECals) DR7 r deep image of the SN 2016jae field. The SN and the three nearby galaxies discussed in the text (SDSS-SW, SDSS-SE, and SDSS-NW) are indicated. We consider D_L = 92.9 ± 4.3 Mpc to estimate the physical projected distance in the scale bar. We argue that SN 2016jae most likely exploded in the outer halo of SDSS-SE, as this is the nearest galaxy with a similar redshift.
