The single galaxy tracks (small solid circles connected by grey lines) are colour-coded according to their stellar mass at z ∼ 0.1, whereas the solid, thick black lines are the average values. The thick yellow line in the left panel represents the average ℰ(t), but it was computed excluding the two galaxies showing the largest values of the same quantity at redshift z = 0.1. In each panel, the magenta lines represent the galaxies characterised by downward-concave CMDFs.
