Mock surface brightness image of RX J1131−1231 obtained, as explained in Sect. 3.1.1, using the parameters in Tables 1 and 2. The lens galaxy at the centre is surrounded by an Einstein ring and the four images of the host galaxy (quasar excluded). The image has a resolution of 0.05″ pixel−1. In the mock image we added simulated noise, as explained in Sect. 3.1.1.
