Schematic representation of the radiative transfer calculations in the jet. The ray travelling from the star to the observer is split into Nj grid points where it passes through the jet. Each grid point has a density ρ and a velocity v. We iterate over each grid point in order to determine the resulting intensity along this line for each wavelength.
