The green shaded region corresponds to models where the maximum contrast of the lightcurve is less than 2.5. The hatched polarization period constraint arises from the assumption that the change in polarization angle during the flare is caused by the motion of the hotspot through the magnetic field. The polarization loop constraint is based on a model with a vertical magnetic field and the requirement that the polarization angle matches the behavior observed during the flare.
