Measurement of the extinction of the background quasar by dust in the DLA. The X-shooter spectrum is shown in grey with the continuum regions used to constrain the fit highlighted in black. The blue spectrum shows the scaled but unreddened quasar composite from Selsing et al. (2016). The thick red line shows the composite reddened by a LMC average extinction law with A_V(DLA) = 0.43. The shaded region represents the strength of the 2175 Å bump (A_bump(DLA) = 0.58 ± 0.003), that is the area between the reddened composite and the same reddened composite where the bump component (c₃) has been set to zero.
