Illustration of the deprojection method for radial velocity (or any 1D variable projected from a 3D vector). For a bin (V i−1, V i) of width δV, where V i = i × δV, Ni is the number of values contained in this bin in the histogram of the projected quantity. The number of objects that have a deprojected value v = V i is given by the area of the rectangle of height (Ni − Ni+1) and of extent [0, V i].
