Schematic geometry of the emitting gas. The filled red circle indicates the position of IRAS 04166, and the green line is the direction of propagation of the jet. Each emitting region is represented by a tilted disk of gas that expands perpendicular to the jet axis, and whose velocity vectors have been color coded according to their Doppler shift. This schematic geometry simultaneously reproduces the elliptical shape of the emission and the systematic velocity pattern. (To improve visibility, the size of the disks has been exaggerated in proportion to their distance from the central source.)
