Snapshot at a fixed time of the density stratification (upper panel) and velocity field (lower panel) of the stellar wind in a O9.5 supergiant star, as predicted by time-dependent hydrodynamic simulations described in Sect. 2. The upper panel shows that the wind density can change by several orders of magnitude owing to the presence of clumps. The corresponding strong wind velocity jumps are visible in the lower panel.
