CME information from Cane et al. (2010) unless otherwise indicated, except for the width, which for all events is adopted from the SOHO/LASCO CME catalog. A gap in the LASCO observations is marked by “dg”.

Event-averaged Fe/C ratio.

Time of the proton onset determined with the Poisson-CUSUM-method described in Huttunen-Heikinmaa et al. (2005), using 12.613.8 MeV protons.

(f)

Proton event onset during a SOHO/ERNE data gap; onset time determined as the first minute after the gap.

(g)

X-ray flare identified based on information from the NOAA GOES X-ray flare database.

(h)

CME identified based on information from the SOHO/LASCO CME catalog.
