Three luminosity maps of the same luminosity Lext for different smoothing scales as indicated in each panel. We draw in white the luminosity isodensity contours of 107 and 108 L⊙ arcsec-2. The smoothing scale s influences the shape of the luminosity isodensity contours, and by construction the shape of the resulting mass distribution, hence its lensing properties.
