Transit light curves for a Jupiter-like planet orbiting at the Roche limit (r0 = rR = 2.51 R) of a Sun-like star with uniform flux (in red). For comparison, we also show the light curve of a spherical planet (dashed line), and the difference between the two curves (bottom figure). The dots correspond to the relative positions shown in the top figure. The shape of the planet in the top figure is obtained with an exaggerated hf = 6, so that we can better spot the modifications in the projected shape, but the transit light curves are obtained with the realistic Jupiter’s value hf = 1.5 (Yoder 1995).
