Effective potential for given values of E and L in the Schwarzschild space-time. A choice of E and L uniquely identifies radial turning points, that is, values of the radial coordinates at which the radial velocity, $\dot{r}$ $\[\dot{r}\]$ , is zero. These points are identified by the pericenter, r_p, and the apocenter, r_a.
