Root-mean-square parallel electric field, E_∥, normalised to $T_{0} ρ_{s} / (e L_{z}^{2}$ $T_0 \rho _\mathrm {s} / (e L_z^2$ ), and the heating rate, j_∥E_∥, normalised to $n_{0} c_{s} T_{0} ρ_{s}^{2} / L_{z}^{3}$ $n_0 c_\mathrm {s} T_0 \rho _\mathrm {s}^2/ L_z^3$ , for the baseline case 1 (β = 0) and case 7 (β = 3.5·10⁻⁴). Heating primarily arises from the electrostatic component of the electric field.
