Birth gradient evolution of a barred TNG50 MW-like galaxy (top panels; subhalo 577372) and the barred NIHAO-UHD galaxy (bottom panels; g2.79e12). The galaxy g2.79e12 experienced a massive merger ~9.5 Gyr and ~4 Gyr ago, and its bar formed just under 8 Gyr ago. In both galaxies, the gradient can be well approximated by a line.
