Illustration of the disk scale lengths calculated in this work compared to those from Sotillo-Ramos et al. (2022). The left and middle panels show the face-on and edge-on view of a strongly barred TNG50 MW/Andromeda analog (subhalo 544001) whose disk scale length provided by TNG50 is significantly overestimated at 17.76 kpc. We estimate the disk scale length to be 5 kpc, which appears to be a better estimate. The right panel provides a comparison between the TNG50 disk scale lengths and ours. We find that the majority of galaxies have smaller disk scale lengths than found in Sotillo-Ramos et al. (2022).
