Notes. The orbital separation evolution timescale, τ a b = a b ˙ / a b 1 $\tau _{{a_{\rm b}}} = \langle {\dot {{a_{\rm b}}}}/ {a_{\rm b}}\rangle ^{-1}$ and the horizontal shear rate, | γ xy | ˙ $\langle |{\dot {\gamma _{xy}|}}\rangle$ are averaged over the last 500 orbits for live simulations, and the last 50 orbits for simulations with fixed orbits. a b f $a_{\rm b} ^f$ is the orbital separation measured after 2125 binary orbits. q=M2/M1 is the binary's mass ratio.
