Cartoon representation of type II and type III radio sources moving from R = Rs to R = 6Rs, which is the range over which the WT simulation is applied. For the type III source traveling along open magnetic field lines, the source velocity is given by the beam velocity, Vs ≃ Vb. For the type II source, while the electron beam is accelerated at the shock front (with average speeds ±Vb), the traveling speed of the source itself is much lower, Vs ≃ VCME ≪ Vb.
