Periodic table highlighting the frequency of metal detection in metal-enriched white dwarfs. The number in each box represents how many white dwarfs have detections of that photospheric metal. The colours represent the Goldschmidt classification (Goldschmidt 1937), which groups metals into their geochemical preferences with atmophiles (gas-loving; blue), lithophiles (silicate-loving; green), chalcophiles (sulfur-loving; yellow) and siderophiles (iron-loving; red). Metals that have two colours within their box exhibit both siderophilic and lithophilic characteristics. The box containing H indicates the number of He-atmosphere white dwarfs with trace-H detections and vice versa for the box with He.
